Design Challenge

1. Slim Form Factor with High Capacity: The primary challenge was to integrate a 5,400mAh lithium battery into the slimmest possible form factor. Balancing the need for a compact design while maximizing battery capacity required innovative engineering and design solutions.

2. Integration of Two Cables: Incorporating two integrated cables posed a design challenge in terms of maintaining a compact size. Striking the right balance between functionality and size was crucial, as it required careful consideration of cable placement and internal layout.

3. Redesigning Power Button and LED Indicator: Differentiating the power button and LED indicator from the previous model posed a design challenge. It involved creating a unique and distinctive design that aligned with the overall aesthetic of the portable battery while ensuring ease of use and visibility.

4. Compliance with MFI Specifications: Adhering to the specifications and rules set by Apple's MFI program added complexity to the design process. Meeting Apple's standards for safety, engineering, and functionality required meticulous attention to detail and close collaboration with Apple's guidelines.

Contribution

1. Diverse Design Variations: I played a key role in designing numerous variations of the portable battery, taking into account different sizes of lithium batteries provided by the vendor. By exploring various options, we were able to optimize the performance, form factor, and user experience of our product.

2. Cost Analysis and Margin Optimization: I actively participated in designing both aluminum and plastic housing versions of the portable battery. Through careful cost analysis, we assessed the margin percentages and presented various options to the upper management. This contribution helped ensure a balanced approach to cost optimization and profitability.

3. Collaborative Efforts: I actively collaborated with both internal and external engineers, as well as vendors, throughout the product development process. By leveraging their expertise and working closely together, we successfully brought the products to market within the given timeframe. This collaborative approach was essential in overcoming technical challenges and ensuring the final products met our high standards.

Through my contributions, we were able to deliver a range of slim and powerful portable batteries that surpassed expectations in terms of design, functionality, and compatibility. By actively participating in diverse design variations, conducting cost analysis, and fostering collaboration, I played a significant role in achieving our goals and delivering a superior charging experience to our customers.

FUNCTION

Dual Device Charging Innovation: Our portable battery introduced the groundbreaking concept of charging two devices simultaneously, setting a new standard in the industry. Users can now charge their iPhone and other USB input devices at the same time, providing unmatched convenience.

Magnetic Cable Management: We incorporated a magnetic attachment system that securely holds cables in place when not in use. This feature eliminates cable clutter and ensures easy access, enhancing the overall functionality of the device.

• Absolute beast of a charger! I spent a December weekend in NYC with temperatures in the teens (which meant my iPhone died quickly) and the 5400 held up to the challenge. Easily got a couple of charges out of it from two phones that were hovering around 20%. Would recommend this device to anyone who travels a lot, frequently outside, or just needs a solid backup plan. • it has its own lightning cable and it is really great. And the end of the lightning cable, there is a small magnet so easy to stick. And it is firm and lightweight. U won't regret it. (by IAN)

• No wonder this is always sold out! The battery design is very sleek and modern. It takes a while to charge up but the double charge it delivers is outstanding! I especially like the LED light indicator. Worth the money and wait. (by Action)
