Design Challenge

• In the current market, there was no reliable, safe and adjustable car in-sight mirror that can be used throughout the day and night.

• Designing a Premium Car In-Sight Mirror for Rear-Facing Children. If successfully developed, Target will sign the contract.

• Objective: Develop a high-quality car in-sight mirror that provides a clear view of the baby at any angle, day or night, while driving.

• By addressing the challenges of visibility, safety, and convenience, the premium car in-sight mirror aims to meet the unmet travel needs of parents while upholding the highest standards of design, compliance, and functionality.

Contribution

1. Collaboration and Leadership:

   • Engaged in day-to-day interactions with Engineers, Marketing, Costing, Packaging, and PD Management to ensure a cohesive design process.

   • Led the entire industrial design process, from ideation to sample reviews, overseeing every stage of development.

2. Market Research and Analysis:

   • Conducted a comprehensive study of similar products in the market, examining their strengths and weaknesses.

   • Analyzed positioning strategies to identify opportunities for Munchkin's car in-sight mirror in a competitive market.

3. Optimizing Visibility and Safety:

   • Recognized the significance of LED brightness and lighting direction in providing a safe and gentle illumination for the baby's face.

   • Developed a color-changing LED feature, allowing the mirror to create a soothing ambiance or keep the baby awake based on the color spectrum.

4. Innovation and Customization:

   • Utilized various design tools, including sketching, prototyping, and 3D CAD construction, to bring the concept to life.

   • Implemented 3D rendering and design proposals to refine the mirror's aesthetic appeal and functionality.

   • Specified the CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) to enhance the overall design and create a visually appealing product.

   The contributions made in collaboration, market research, safety optimization, innovation, and customization have resulted in a car in-sight mirror that provides a clear view of the baby while ensuring the driver's comfort and safety. The inclusion of a color-changing LED feature adds versatility and further enhances the mirror's ability to create a calming or stimulating environment for the baby.

FORM

1. Intentionally designed with soft curvature lines and a smooth surface finish for a gentle and friendly appearance in a car.

2. Emphasized function and usability over excessive decoration to ensure practicality.

FUNCTION

1. Easy mounting on car headrest with adjustable double straps and buckles.

2. Mirror angle can be adjusted with a spring fitted pivot hinge.

3. 4 lighting modes controlled by a remote controller that can be clipped onto the sun visor.

SAFETY

1. Enables parents to check their babies while driving, with multiple lighting features for day and night use.

2. Gradually brightening soft warm white LED lights to prevent shocking or hurting baby's eyes.

3. Shatterproof and crash-tested by an international compliance lab.

SUSTAINABILITY

1. Made from recyclable materials without secondary paint coating or permanent assembly features.

2. Designed for easy disassembly and proper recycling.

• “If you've ever been driving solo with a baby in a car seat, you know this situation well: the baby starts fussing or crying and you can't tell what's going on. A quick turn of your head to see is both dangerous and not really helpful, so you're left to wonder: is whatever is going on urgent enough that you need to pull over and stop? (Which in itself could be difficult or dangerous to do, depending on the road where you're driving.)
  The Munchkin Night Light Mirror allows you to safely know what's going on with your baby at all times, with an easy-to-install solution that's really genius in its simplicity. By day, the wide-angle mirror is all you need to get a clear view of your child. By night, the LEDs give you the non-glare light you need to see without being distracting. And by day or night, the ability to change the lighting colors may provide just enough visual "entertainment" to stop the baby from simply fussing in the seat. (But YMMV with that one, lol!) I also appreciate having the convenience of these choices on a handy remote.
  Additionally, I have to say that with all the complications of today's infotainment systems in cars, it was refreshing to have a simple, low-tech solution like the Munchkin Night Light Mirror that still does what it claims. No connecting through Bluetooth or wifi -- just strap it to the headrest, adjust the angle, and you're done!
