The Vudu Spark was Walmart’s entry into the streaming stick market, designed to compete with devices like Google’s Chromecast and Roku. This HDMI plug-in device provided direct access to Walmart’s Vudu streaming service, turning any compatible TV into a gateway for on-demand video.

PROJECT CONTEXT

2014 freelance project: housing design for Vudu Spark streaming stick + remote.

Extremely low-cost target (few dollars per unit) and 2 months timeline.

Required housings that were user-friendly and optimized for manufacturing.

MY ROLE & CONTRIBUTIONS

Translated constraints of time, cost, manufacturability into design solutions.

Produced rapid ideation, 3D CAD models, and visualizations.

Enabled stakeholder review to secure next-stage funding.

Fandango at Home (formerly known as Vudu) is an American digital video store and streaming service owned by Fandango Media, a joint-venture between Versant and Warner Bros. In 2010, Vudu was sold to Walmart. In 2020, Fandango Media acquired Vudu.
